Kasaragod, August 13: The Mangalore Air Crash Victims' Families Association on Friday demanded compensation to all the families of the air crash victims as per the recent judgment of the High Court.
The association leader Kalingam Narayanan and KATA vice-president N A Sulaiman told media persons here that majority of the families of the victims are yet to get the full compensation as per rules.
They said that the Kerala High Court had ordered payment of not less than Rs 75 lakh each as compensation to the families of the victims following a petition filed by Abdul Salam of Kumbla who had lost his son in the air crash.
The judgment was hailed by Civil Aviation minister Vayalar Ravi and other political leaders.
But the insurance company of the Air India filed an appeal in the High Court against the court verdict, they added.
The ministry of Civil Aviation had even directed the Air India to pay Rs 75 lakh each to the victims. But instead of awarding the compensation and taking a humane stand on the issue, the Air India filed a review petition in the High Court.
The association, therefore, appealed to all political parties, the media and social organisations to fight for the demand for rightful compensation to the dependents of the victims.
