Bajpe, August 15: Top police officers are seriously considering a proposal to construct new and full-fledged police stations at Gurupur-Kaikamba as soon as possible, after a successful up-gradation of Bajpe police station. Bajpe is considered to be the most sensitive area under Mangalore City Police Commissionerate.
Currently, as many as 25 villages, comprising a large number of populations, fall under the limits of Bajpe police station and it is too difficult for the police to operate under pressure situations. Moreover, the increasing crime rates including thefts in the National Highway, posed a new challenge to the overburdened police.
Bajpe police station has only 34 members as its staff which includes one inspector, one sub-inspector, four assistant sub-inspectors and 12 head constables. The number of staff is said to be insufficient to handle accidents and riots which occur with considerable frequency in places such as Gurupur-Kaikamba, Ganjimata, Edapadavu etc, which are situated 8 to 10 kilometers away from the police station.
The Mangalore Airport, Multi-National Companies, Kateel temple has further increased the responsibility of the Station. The above facts have made a new police station for the surrounding areas extremely necessary.
It is said that 13 villages of Gurupur-Kaikamba region, two villages of Mangalore rural police limits and one village of Kavoor police limits are outlined to come under the proposed police station in Gurupura-Kaikamba.
If the demands for the new police station are met, people of the area, feel that it would result in efficient policing.
