Mangalore, August 17: Former president of Bantwal taluk panchayat Chandrahas Shetty Bolanthur shot himself with a revolver at his old residence in Bolanthur in Bantwal taluk under Vittla police station limits on Wednesday afternoon.
45 year old Congress leader Chandrahas is battling for life at a private hospital in the city.
It is said that Chandrahas, who is also a businessman, had left his new house in Bolanthur in the morning saying that he wanted to pay a visit to the old residence located in a little distance. However he had never returned till noon. When his family members went to fetch him for the lunch in the afternoon, they found the main door of the house was locked from inside.
Feared by the insider's silence to the calling bell, his uncle Gangadhar Rai, broke open the door to witness a critically wounded Chandrahas lying in a pool of blood.
He rushed him to a private hospital in the city, from where he was shifted to another private hospital for further treatment. MLA B Ramanath Rai and Congress leader Bondala Jagannath Shetty rushed to the hospital on hearing the news.
'Suicide Note' found
Police sources informed that a 'suicide note' was found where Chandrahas allegedly attempted to commit suicide. They said that he wanted to be relieved from the intolerable pain of intestine disease.
Bantwal Police Circle Inspector Vivekananda, Vittla police Sub Inspector Rakshit Gowda and team visited the spot.
