Mangalore, August 25: First Indian to head Amnesty International Salil Shetty will be felicitated on August 30 at 4:30 pm on the premises of Sri Ramakrishna School Bunts hostel, here.
Mangalore based Mr Shetty was appointed the eighth Secretary General of Amnesty International in July 2010. He is the first Indian to hold this prestigious post. Prior to joining Amnesty International, he was director of the United Nations Millenium Campaign from 2003 to 2010. He was also the chief of Action Aid from 1998 to 2003, where he successfully transformed Action Aid into one of the world's foremost NGO's.
Kodialguthu Ajit Kumar Rai Maladi, Chairman, Kodialguthu Charitable Trust will preside over the felicitation ceremony. Padma Bhushan Dr B M Hegde, Dr Shivshankar Murthy, Vice-chancellor, Mangalore, Dr Chennappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner, K Praveen, Mayor, Mangalore City Corporation will be among the dignitaries participating in the ceremony.
