Mangalore, August 28: City Deputy Police Commissioner (Law and Order) M Muthuraya said Dalits should not 'compromise' after filing a case and should make sure that the offenders get punished.
He was speaking at a meeting organised by Mangalore City Police with members of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities and representatives of SC/ST organisations at the office of City Police Commissioner here on August 28.
He said, many a times, Dalits who lodge the complains bow down to the tactics of 'understanding' causing inconvenience to the investigation.
Sadashiva Urwastore, Vice President of Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (Ambedkarvada) complained that a writer in Bajpe police station allegedly forged his signature, at the behest of the Police Sub-Inspector, forcing him to be a 'witness' in a case pertaining to a sexual atrocity on August 8, 2010.
Though he filed a complaint a year ago, police have failed to investigate into the matter, he alleged and added that he was still running pillar to post when court summons as and when the trial progresses. DCP replied that they would look into the matter.
The DCP also asked the members of SC/ST to raise the issues related to the community instead of personal in the grievance meetings.
