Mangalore, September 5: MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik lamented that the political uncertainty in the State in the past three years, has contributed to the woes of teachers.
He was speaking at the Teachers Day celebration organised under the aegis of Department of Public Instructions at Town Hall here on Monday.
Mr Karnik said that the BJP led Karnataka Government could not give enough attention towards the problems of the teachers, due to the unending political crisis and various other problems.
The MLC admitted that the Government, despite earmarking a tremendous amount of money for the education department, failed to address all the demands of the teachers.
“In 2004-5 the Government of Karnataka had spent Rs 3,650 cr for education department. Now, the current government has earmarked Rs 12,284 cr for the same purpose. Despite this fact there are few lapses, which need to be addressed,” he said.
District In-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar called upon the teachers to infuse humane values and life-skills among students.
He said that there is a need to rejuvenate the ancient education system of this country-the Gurkul, which according to him, was far superior to modern western education.
On the occasion, a state level award winning high school teacher, 12 district level award winning primary and high school teachers and 37 retired teachers were felicitated.
