Mangalore, September 13: Four minor boys, employed at an industrial unit in Baikampady Industrial Area, near here, were rescued by the officials of the Department of Labour during a raid on Tuesday afternoon.
Based on a complaint filed by the office-bearers of Akhila Bharata Karmika Sangha, the officials raided 'Sri Chakra Containers Pvt Ltd', along with a team of local police personnel.
The four children who were taken into custody by the officials have been identified as Mothi Kumar, Gangaram Kumar, Sajal Kumar and Rohith Kumar – all hailing from the state of Bihar.
The exact ages of the children, who were temporarily handed over to 'Bala Mandir' in Bondel, are yet to be confirmed by the officials.
Assistant Labour Commissioner Venkatesh Shindhihatti informed that the boy would be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after the medical tests and preliminary inquiry.
Meanwhile, the employers have maintained that all the four children were above 14 years, although they did not have their age proof. They said that the children were employed since August 22.
CWC Chairperson Asha Nayak said that the Committee is yet to gather information about the children who were currently sheltered at Bala Mandir. “Once the children are produced before the Committee, they will make necessary arrangements” she said.
