Mangalore, September 17: The representatives of the fishermen on Friday eld a meeting with the NMPT chairman Thamilvannan and requested him to allow fishing boats to enter the habrour during distress.
The NMPT authorities have responded positively to our demand, said Nitin Kumar, the chairman of fisheries development corporation, who led the delegation. The meeting was convened in the wake of the Thursday's boat mishap, which has left five fishermen missing.
He also claimed that if any boat wants to enter the NMPT waters during emergency they should contact 9741875428 or 08242407428. The security staff of the port will complete the security check within 15 minutes and allow the boat to enter the habrour, Mr Kumar said quoting Thamilvannan.
Besides Thamilvannan, the meeting was attended by trustee Prasad Kanchan, NMPT traffic controller captain Mohanty, fishermen leaders Naveen Karkera, Devanand, Naveen Bangera, Mohan Bangera and others.
