Mysuru, Sept 26: Police have arrested three people for distributing of fake Doctorate Certificates to people by taking money ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs five lakh from a hotel in the city on Saturday.
Police said that after receiving information about this racket, Deputy Commissioner of Police A N Prakash Gowda, led a team and raided the hotel where in a function fake Doctorates were being distributed to more than a 100 aspirants. Shocked over the raid many of the organizers took to their heels and the police team was able to arrest three people who allegedly belonged to International Global Peace University.
The fake university, police said has spread its tentacles all over the country, adding that it keeps holding functions in different cities in the garb of distributing fake Doctorates in exchange for lakhs of rupees. The police seized fake certificates and mementos at the venue.
A case has been registered at the Vidyaranyapura police station.
The police had prior information that more than 120 people from different parts of the country were going to be bestowed with fake Doctorates at the hotel.
Many aspirants from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu who had allegedly paid Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh had to return disappointed.
