Halady Srinivas Shetty, who resigned as Member of Legislative Assembly three days ago, formerly joined Bharatiya Janta Party in the presence of top party leaders in Bengaluru on Friday.
Shetty had won the Kundapur Assembly seat twice on the BJP ticket. However, following differences with the party leadership, he quit the BJP in 2013 and won as an Independent.
Shetty said he returned to the BJP as he’s indebted to the party for making him MLA twice. BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa inducted Shetty back to the party fold.
Earlier, speaking to media persons Shetty said that he respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and national president Amit Shah, and had good relations with all State-level BJP leaders.
“My supporters and admirers also urged me to rejoin the BJP. Hence, I have decided to join the party unconditionally,” he said.
Mr Shetty’s rejoining the BJP is likely to be a shot in the arm for the party. The Congress party had been struggling to find a leader to match Mr Shetty’s popularity in the Kundapur Assembly Constituency for the last 19 years. On the other hand, a few a few leaders in BJP's Kundapur unit have opposed Shetty’s reentry.
