Mangalore, September 18: With little over 10-days left for Dasara festivities to start, management of Sri Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli has started preparations for Mangalore Dasara in right earnestness. The festival would be celebrated at the Kshetra from September 28 to October 6, H S Sairam, President of temple management committee said.
"The finale will be held on October 6 with traditional Mangalore dasara procession," he said speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday.
"The committee will continue the temple's tradition started in 2008 of installing the idols of Goddess Sharada with Navadurgas on the opening day and perform poojas to the deities throughout dasara festivity period. All the idols will be installed at the Sri Kshetra on September 28 this year. Mangalore Dasara is now in to its 22nd year," he added.
Harikrishna Bantwal, development trustee of the Kshetra said Dasara festivities were being organized under the stewardship of former KPCC president B Janardhana Poojary. "Mangalore Dasara has gained iconic status on the lines of Mysore Dasara and the Madikeri Dasara. Union civil aviation minister Vayalar Ravi will inaugurate the Dasara festivities on October 2," he added.
Artistes of international repute will perform during the 10-day festival. "More than 50 tableaux participated in the dasara procession last year. We expect an equal if not more number of tableaux to take part this year. We have given strict instructions to those wanting to put up tableaux that DJ music will not be permitted. Also they will have to have a cultural theme," he said.
