Udupi, September 19: The postal department is facing challenges due to rapid technological progress, said Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Minister Oscar Fernandes said on Sunday.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the three-day 28th Joint Karnataka Circle Conference of All India Railway Mail Service, Motor Mail Service Employees Union, Group C, Mail Guard and Multi Tasking Staff, here.
Mr. Fernandes said that people were relying more on using emails and mobile telephones for communication in the urban areas.
He said many changes were being proposed in the postal department. But the changes needed to be discussed with the employees of the department, before they were implemented.
He appreciated the staff of the postal department for their honesty. “There are no charges of corruption against the department. If the national level leaders of the postal employees union come forward, I will take them to the concerned ministry, where they can discuss their problems", Mr. Fernandes said.
Former Secretary General of National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE) C.C. Pillai, chairman of Reception Committee A.C.A Karim , office bearers of the employees union Giriraj Singh, P. Suresh, P. Kamaleshan, A. Maruthi, P. Sheshagiri Rao and T.B. Harish, were present.
