Manipal, September 29: "She was a bold girl and used to advise me when I am in a crisis. She was our hope and now we are left in the darkness," said Shekar Poojari, father of Prithvi S P (16), a budding athlete who hanged herself in her hostel room of SMS College in Brahmavar on Tuesday.
Poojari said, "Prithvi called me around 9.45am on Tuesday. She was very happy when she told me that she had bagged the second place in javelin throw in a meet in Mandya. I don't know why she took this extreme step."
Prithvi's maternal uncle claimed that his niece killed herself as she was unable to bear the harassment and bad treatment by warden Sunita Amin, coach Sathyanaryana and coordinator Chandrashekar Hegde.
Prithvi, a II PUC student and native of Ampar in Kundapur, had all her training expenses taken care by Brahmavar Sports Club.
Brahmavar Police, who are investigating the case, arrested a person in connection with the case from Brahmavar on Wednesday. It is believed the arrested, Mizhbhan (22) used to trouble her over phone.
