Mangalore, September 29: Though hospitals and police are two separate entities they play a similar role in the society, said Dr C P Habeeb Rahman, Chairman of Unity Health Complex.
Delivering the presidential address at the World Heart Day 2011 awareness programme-cum-free cardiac check-up camp for senior citizens, policemen, army, and ex-servicemen, organised at his hospital on Thursday, Mr Rahman said police and hospitals provide 24 X 7 service to the society facing all the hurdles. However, generally people don't hesitate to blame hospitals and police if there is an unsolvable case, he lamented.
Inaugurating the camp, Seemanth Kumar Singh, the DIGP and Commissioner of Police, expressed gratitude to the hospital for arranging such a camp for “those people who do not get time to visit hospital for a check-up”.
Dr Paul Varghese, Interventional Cardiologist, briefing the significance of World Heart Day, said that a special care about health is necessary to prevent cardiovascular diseases, which is one of the largest killers in the world.
He said that there is a need to create awareness against smoking, alcoholism and inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables, which normally lead to heart diseases and stroke.
Devaraj B, Administrative Coordinator of the hospital welcomed the gathering. G Chitra, Principal, Unity Academy of Education, proposed the vote of thanks. Ajmal M Habeeb, Managing Director of the hospital was present among others. The cardiac health check-up programme will go on till October 15.
