Belthangadi, September 29: Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swamiji, the Chief Pontiff of the Nidumamidi Mutt, said that a strong people's movement was necessary to fight against the corrupt system, as ruling powers have transformed into the hub of corruption and exploitation.
Speaking after inaugurating the 104th birth anniversary celebration of freedom fighter Bhagath Sigh organised by Bhagath Sigh birth anniversary celebration committee, here on Wednesday the progressive seer lamented that 'democracy' in India has become dacoits' democracy instead of people's democracy.
Bhagath Sigh had dreamt of building an exploitation-free society upholding the value of equality, which is not yet fulfilled, the Nidumamidi seer said adding that today this country requires leaders, who follow the path of Bhagath Sigh.
Expressing distress over the rampant corruption in India, Swamiji said, generally people are concerned only about economic corruption, whereas religious, political, social corruptions too are growing like monsters.
“There is a lack of courage in the society to speak out the truth and religious heads too are hesitating to voice against falsehood. In the name of culture, religious corruption has been imposed on the people,” he said, adding that there is need to put an end to this situation.
Stating that religions have been hijacked by fundamentalists, the seer said that religious heads not only became corrupt, but also transformed the religious centers into the centers of black money. “Religious centers should show the courage to reject black money,” he said.
Nidumamidi seer also suggested the people to confine religious matters to their houses and become pure Indians in the society. “Patriotism is not a street fight, but it's about how well every individual fulfills his responsibility towards the country. Good people of all religions and castes should unite and raise voice against evil”, he said.
