Mangalore, October 3: Two men accused of collecting commission for facilitating loans to beneficiaries under the Shrama Shakti Scheme were detained and later let off by Urwa police.
Abdul Kareem and Ganesh from Puttur were accused of collecting Rs.2, 000 each from 15 beneficiaries hailing from Puttur. The beneficiaries, with help of Ganesh and Kareem had received loan of Rs.15, 000, including Rs.3, 750 subsidies, under the Karnataka Minority Development Corporation's Shrama Shakti Scheme.
The duo allegedly cheated the beneficiaries by claiming that they had incurred expenses worth Rs.2, 000 per applicant. Urwa police, acting on complaints, arrested them near the Minority Development Corporation office in Kottara Chowki.
BJP Yuva Morcha state vice-president Franklin Montero said that based on complaints they had informed the Urwa police, but lamented that the men were let off without registering a case. Urwa police also said no case had been registered in this regard.
