Mangalore, October 8: The centenary celebrations of 'Akhila Bharata Billava Union' will be commenced in the month of December, said Naveenchandra D Suvarna, the President of the Union.
Speaking at the half yearly meet of Union at Dhamodar R Suvarna auditorium in Narayanguru College, Kudroli, he briefly explained the philanthropic activities of the union.
He said hostel construction project has been taken up to facilitate the higher education for poor Billava students in the city. The state government has already granted one acre of land in Kunjata and a grant of Rs 2 crore has been promised.
The foundation stone laying ceremony for the building will be held during the inauguration of centenary celebrations in the month of December.
Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will be invited, said Naveenchandra.
Union's vice-president K Lokanath, General Secretary Mohandas Mugila, Treasurer B Deranna, Secretary Y Sudhir Kumar, Udayachandra D Suvarna, KT Suvarna, Secretary Sukhalakshi Y Suvarna, Chandrashekar Sunil, and the president of Billava Mahila Sangha Sumalatha N Suvarna were present among others.
