Kasargod, October, 9: Huge damage was caused when a massive fire broke out in storeroom of a shop selling pipes and other construction materials late on Saturday night in the city.

The fire, which began around 8 pm in the first floor of Sri Krishna Trading Centre located on MG road, spread all over the three-story building within a couple of hours destroying everything.

However, no casualties have been reported in the mishap.

The fire extinguishers, who rushed to the spot from Kasargod and nearbly Uppala and Kanhangad, brought the situation under control after three-hour long struggle.

It is assumed that the fire started due to an electric short-circuit, after the owner and workers closed the shop and left the place.

Preliminary evaluation by fire department suggested that the fire inflicted a loss of over Rs 10 lakh.

The Karnataka government has announced that Nandini milk will become ₹4 costlier per litre starting April 1, 2025. This is the second price hike this year.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Karnataka Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna and Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh said the increase is meant to support dairy farmers by covering the rising costs of producing and processing milk.

Officials also said that:

>> The extra money from the price hike will go directly to the milk producers.

>> The earlier ₹2 price hike (announced on June 26, 2024) will be withdrawn.

>> The new price hike of ₹4 will apply to both 500 ml and 1-litre packets.
