Kasaragod, October 14 : As many as five persons were injured in clashes, in Meeppuguri near Choori on the outskirts of the city, where two motor bikes when set on fire and three houses including a residential quarters were stoned around 10:30 pm on Thursday.
Another group beat up Ibrahim,68, of Choori. His sons Sameer,30, and Shabeer,20 were also beaten up. They were later admitted to hospital. Mohammed kunhi,50, an autorickshaw driver was attacked in Meeppuguri around 10pm.
Two houses in the area belonging to Indu Sekhar and Suresh were stoned by a group who came in motor bikes around 10.30pm.
According to police, the violence started as a boy staying at the Jagadamba colony in Meepugiri was allegedly threatened by a group of persons on Thursday evening.
A group of miscreants waylaid Naveen Kumar of Choori and burned his motor bike. Another motor bike parked on the roadside was also burnt by the miscreants.
The attacks and counter attacks continued before the police reached the spot. The houses were stoned by a gang who covered their faces with clothes.
Heavy police was deployed in the area after the incident.
In another incident, crackers were hurled at the house of Raman, a BJP activist in the wee hours of Friday.
Police recovered a machete and a packet of chilly abandoned near the house. Police took into custody nearly 50 youths from the area following the incidents.
