Venoor Bahubali anointment will be celebrated as Nadahabba'

Venoor, October 17: Maha Masthaka Abhisheka of Venoor Bahubali which will be held from January 28 to February 5, 2012 will be celebrated as 'Nadahabba'.

People belonging to Jain community as well as other communities will be invited from various parts of the nation and will be involved in the ceremony, said former Union Minister and Venoor Bahubali Masthakabhisheka Welcome Committee Working President V Dhananjay Kumar.

Speaking to the media persons at Bahubali Sabha Bhavan in Venoor on Sunday, he said that preparations are going on in full swing under the guidance of Moodbidri, Shravanabelagola pontiffs and Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade.

Informing about the religious rituals to be held during Mahamashakabhisheka, he said 'Vimana Shuddhi', 'Indra Prathishte', 'Torana Muhurtha', 'Naandi Mangala will be held with various Abhisheka's (anointments) including tender coconut, milk, sugar cane juice, sandalwood, and 'Ashta Gandha'.

As per the rituals Mahamasthakabhisheka will be held every day between 7 pm to 10 pm. Religious ceremonies, rituals and religious discourses will be held during the day. Four Thyagis, 11 Mathajis and pontiffs from various mutts will take part in the programme.

The Chief Minister, the State Governor and several other dignitaries will participate.

In the backdrop of Mahamasthakabhisheka, a proposal of Rs 24 crore has been sent to the government for the development of roads in Dakshina Kannada district. The road development work will be taken up by the Zilla Panchayat at a cost of Rs five crore.

Medical camps have been organised in all the villages in and around Venoor. A scheme of Rs 25 crore has been initiated for supplying drinking water from Phalguni river to Venoor and 15 surrounding villages. The government has already released Rs two crore for the development of Venoor including the construction of tourist guest houses, permanent Attalige (staircase) to the statue, and safeguard materials to protect the statue.

“It would be the Mahakumbha Mela of Jains and it would spread the message of non-violence, sacrifice and love to the world,” said Dhananjay Kumar.

Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji said that Mahamasthakabhisheka is performed to overthrow the evil elements and pray for the well-being of the society.

Statue history

The monolithic 35 ft tall Bahubali statue was installed in Venoor by Jain king Thimmanna Ajila in the year 1604 A.D.

The first ever Mahamasthakabhisheka of this monolithic statue was performed in 1928, followed by the Abhisheka in1956 and 2000. As per the tradition, Mahamasthakabhisheka is performed once in 12 years.

D Harshendra Kumar from Dharmasthala, Dr Padmaprasad Ajila of Aladangadi palace, MLA K Abhayachandra Jain and Committee Secretary Ermodi Gunpal Jain were present.

Udupi: Six junior artists from the prequel of Kannada blockbuster film ‘Kantara’ were injured, when the bus they were travelling in overturned in the district, police said on Monday.

According to police, the accident occurred near Jadkal on Sunday night when the mini-bus carrying the crew of the film overturned.

“The incident happened while they were returning to Kollur after completing the shoot at Mudoor in Jadkal. The mini-bus was carrying 20 junior artistes when it met with the accident,” a police officer said.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Jadkal and Kundapur for treatment, they said.

The Kollur police are investigating the matter.

"The news making rounds is completely false. The Kantara: Chapter 1 team began shooting at 06:00 AM today, and everything is proceeding as normal. A minor accident occurred 20 kilometres away from the shooting location, involving a local bus carrying some members of the Kantara team. However, no injuries were reported," a source close to the production said.

Mangaluru: District-in-Charge Minister and Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dinesh Gundu Rao, announced that a day-care chemotherapy centre will soon be established at District Wenlock Hospital. Speaking to mediapersons after reviewing the activities at Wenlock and Government Lady Goschen Hospital, he shared the government’s plans to enhance healthcare services in the region.

Key Initiatives Announced

•    Day-Care Chemotherapy Centre:

  • Ten beds will be reserved for cancer patients.
  • The government will collaborate with Yenepoya Hospital to provide chemotherapy treatments.
  • All required facilities for the centre are already in place, awaiting inauguration by the Chief Minister.

•    Wenlock Hospital Facelift:

  • Critical Care Block: To be built at a cost of ₹24 crore.
  • Integrated Public Health (IPH) Lab: Planned with a budget of ₹1 crore.
  • New OPD Block: As per a 2017 agreement, KMC Hospital will take up construction. Discussions with KMC management are underway.

•    Additional Requirements:

  • A new mortuary and post-mortem building.
  • Paramedical college building.
  • Modern kitchen.
  • Bridge connecting two buildings within the hospital.

•    Total facelift cost: ₹6 crore to ₹10 crore, utilizing funds from the Department of Health and Family Welfare and CSR contributions.

•    Timeline:
By December or January, priority works will be finalized. The superintendents of Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospitals are scheduled to visit Bengaluru next week to discuss these projects.

•    MRI Fee Allegations:
The minister assured that allegations of patients being charged for MRI scans at Wenlock Hospital will be resolved at the earliest.
These measures aim to improve healthcare accessibility and infrastructure, positioning Wenlock Hospital as a state-of-the-art facility in the region.

Mangaluru: In a heartbreaking incident, three first-year nursing students drowned in the Phalguni River near Barkaje dam, within the Venoor police station limits, on Wednesday evening.

Preliminary reports identify the deceased as Lawrence from Moodbidri, Suraj from Belthangady, and Jaison from Vagga in Bantwal.

According to police sources, the tragedy occurred around 5:30 PM. The group of friends had gathered at a friend's house to celebrate a church feast. After lunch, five of them decided to visit the river near the dam for a swim.

While in the water, two of the students were caught in the strong current. Jaison, attempting to rescue them, was also swept away. Fire and emergency services personnel, along with the police, rushed to the scene and retrieved the bodies.

This tragic event has left the community in deep sorrow.
