Mangalore, October 19: Ullal police on Tuesday arrested a person in connection with the abduction bid on a medical student on the outskirts of the city last week.
The accused has been identified Parvez Ahmed from Harekala village.
Police said that Parvez along with four others on October 12, had kidnapped Nabeel Ahamed, an MBBS student, who was doing his internship in Yenepoya Medical College.
Hailing from Kerala Nabeel was residing at a rented room Kotekar. According to police, the abductors after kidnapping Nabeel from his room, first stopped at Manjeshwar and planned to collect ransom from his parents.
When the police tipped about the kidnap, launched a search operation. To evade arrest, the kidnappers left him near Udyawar in Manjeshwar and fled.
After gaining credible information, Mangalore South division ACP T R Jagannath arrested the accused Parvez from Deralakatte and seized the car used in the kidnapping.
The police also collected information about the whereabouts of four others involved in the kidnapping.
Nabeel, who was admitted to Yenepoya Hospital after being assaulted by abductors, was discharged on Monday.
The accused was remanded to judicial custody, police said.
