Addressing a media conference at the School premises here after the attack, Sr Lynette, former president of the Parent Teacher Association of the School said the attack was pre-planned and a trouble monger group has deliberately committed this crime with an evil intention.

Denouncing the act of the miscreants as a 'heinous crime', she urged the city police for quick action against the culprits.

“The Bethany Educational Society, of which St Theresa's School is a unit, educates lakhs of children all over the country from primary school to college education. This kind of episode has deeply hurt the sentiments of the management, staff and parents. It is our ardent plea that the miscreants be identified and suitable action taken against them”, she said.

“Having a harmonies relationship between the students, staff, management and parents, we are deeply pre-planned activity. Therefore not only the miscreants but also the forces behind this act must be brought to books,” she exhorted.

“This episode gives us deep pain because even before this, on February 20, 2007 the same statue was attacked. Glass case of the statue was broken. Similarly on November 20, 2009 window panes were broken identified till date and no justice was meted out to us”, she lamented.

Stating that St. Theresa's School which was started in the year 1997 and currently has strength of 1300 students and 60 staff members, runs for a noble cause, she said that children from all communities without any discrimination of caste, creed and gender are being educated there.

“Being affiliated to ICSC board, the school enjoys a reputation for its excellence in education, discipline as well as good and harmonious relationship”, she added.

“The Sisters of the institution were shocked this morning when the watchmen informed them that some miscreants, who came in a motor bike without a number plate, threw bricks at the glass case of the statue of St. Therese and the window panes of the school between 4:00 am and 4:30 am. The Principal Sr Premitha has already filed a complaint at the Kadri police station”, she informed.

Asked whether the school management suspects any particular group's hand in this incident, Sr. Rose Celine, the chairperson of PTA said: “We do not blame anyone. However, the motorbike without number-plate makes clear that it was a pre-planned attack and even the brick they used is not from our compound.”

Sr. Rose Saltalha, PTA Vice-President was present among others in the press meet.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday backed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over his claim that the BJP had offered Rs 50 crore each to 50 Congress MLAs in an attempt to "topple" the state government.

Addressing reporters here, Shivakumar, also the Congress state president, said, “The BJP indeed lured 50 Congress MLAs with Rs 50 crore each.”

He defended Siddaramaiah’s statement and said the Congress MLAs were briefed about the BJP’s alleged 'Operation Lotus', a term used to describe the BJP's attempts to destabilise ruling governments through horse-trading.

“Some of our MLAs informed the Chief Minister about this matter, and he, in turn, shared it with the media,” Shivakumar said.

At an event in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah reiterated the claim that "none of the Congress MLAs had accepted the offer".

He also accused the BJP of filing false cases against him in a bid to "remove him and overthrow his government".

The BJP has yet to respond to the allegations.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the Hindu Religious Endowment Department to submit a proposal for constructing a gold chariot for the presiding deity of the state, Chamundeshwari, official sources said on Monday.

The directive follows a request from Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Dinesh Gooligowda, who highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the Chamundeshwari Temple on Chamundi Hill in Mysuru, which dates back to the 12th century AD.

Gooligowda noted that the existing wooden chariot, donated by devotees from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, has deteriorated over time.

“Devotees have expressed their desire to organise a ‘rathotsava’ using a gold chariot for Goddess Chamundeshwari. This proposal has been under consideration for some time, with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore,” the MLC said.

He emphasised that the government’s financial involvement would not be required, as devotees are willing to contribute towards making the chariot a reality.

Gooligowda proposed a deadline for the 2025 Dasara festival for the completion of the chariot, ensuring it is ready for the grand procession featuring the idol of Chamundeshwari.

Mangaluru: A man fell victim to an online scam, losing Rs 1.7 crore after fraudsters posed as officials from TRAI. According to a complaint filed at the CEN police station, the incident began on November 11, when the complainant received a call from an unknown number at 9:49 am.

The caller, claiming to represent TRAI, alleged that another mobile number registered under the complainant's name was involved in illegal activities in Andheri (East), Mumbai. The caller further stated that an FIR was lodged against the complainant for harassment under the guise of marketing. He was instructed to contact Andheri (East) police station immediately or risk his mobile service being deactivated within two hours.

The complainant was subsequently connected to an individual named Pradeep Sawant, who claimed the complainant was implicated in a money laundering scheme linked to the Naresh Goyal fraud case. Sawant alleged that a fraudulent bank account under the complainant's name was opened at Canara Bank, Andheri, and used to purchase a SIM card for illegal activities. He warned that the complainant could face arrest.

Later, the complainant was contacted via WhatsApp video call by individuals posing as Rahul Kumar (a police officer) and Akanksha (a CBI officer). They allegedly sent fabricated CBI documents to his WhatsApp number. The fraudsters demanded money to "resolve" the case. Fearing threats, the complainant allegedly transferred Rs 1.7 crore through RTGS in batches of Rs 53 lakh, Rs 74 lakh, and Rs 44 lakh between November 13 and 19. A case has been registered at the CEN police station and an investigation is ongoing.
