Kasargod, October 25: Nafeesa Hajumma, a 67-year-old woman, died of heart attack after she was told that gangsters had abducted her son Mohammed Bevi, 43, a textile shop owner of Cherkala town in Bevinja, around 10:00 pm on Monday.
The women suffered heart attack on hearing the news and fell on the ground. Although she was rushed to
the E K Nayanar Cooperative Hospital in Chengala, doctors pronounced her dead around 10:30pm.
Mohammed Bevi was returning home in his car with Jaleel, his sales man, after closing his shop around 9pm when a five member gang who were following him in another car blocked his vehicle and abducted him near his house in Berka.
Police said that the gangsters who blocked the vehicle dragged him from the car after pointing a knife at Jaleel who later managed to escape.
Jaleel informed the police and the local people about the abduction. Though the police blocked all the possible escape routes of the assailants, they could not locate them.
However, the gang dropped him in Kunia after taking him to several places throughout the night.
The police have taken two gangsters into custody in connection with the incident. Mohammed Bevi was abducted as part of a gang war between liquor smugglers, said the police.
