Mangalore, November 3: Deepavali, the festival of light was celebrated in Rosario High School recently. The President of the programme was Rev. Fr. Roshan D'souza the Asst. Parish Priest of Rosario Church and the chief guest was Mrs Chandrakala Nandavara the retired Principal of Ganapathi P U college.
The Head Master of Rosario High School Mr Aloysius D'souza and Mr Janardhana Rao was also present on the dais. The celebration commenced with a universal prayer. It has become the practice of this institution to mark various festivals, recently the Ramadhan festival was also celebrated among others.
Mr Janardhan Rao, the senior teacher introduced and welcomed the guests. Dignitaries on the stage lighted the lamp and Mrs Chandrakala Nandavara gave the message saying that we should be a light which dispels the darkness of others and we should preserve the light, air, water and earth more than money and wealth, lighting the lamp is an external symbol but it is necessary that we should lighten the life of others.
Fr Roshan implored students to be instruments of light, to dispel the ignorance and untruth, by sowing the seed of knowledge.
The head master Mr D'souza said that it is important to celebrate all the religious festivals in the school to strengthen the unity understanding and oneness among all religions.
The students who sponsored to distributed sweets were thanked and honoured by giving flowers. Miss Rakshita the student of 10th standard was the master of the ceremony and Mrs Claudia D'souza, teacher, proposed vote of thanks. The programme was ended through the national anthem. There was a significant interest among the students generally to understand the significance of the festival which contributed a close linking among the various groups of students which was appreciated by all present.
