29-year-old youth from Katpady dies in road crash near Taif

Mangalore, November 9: A 29-year-old man from Manipur near Katpadi in Udupi district died in a tragic road accident near Taif on Monday, according to reports reaching here.

The victim has been identified as Mohammed Shareef, son of Isubu Beary.

The tragedy occurred when the five members of a family including Shareef were on their way back to Jubail after visiting Makkah. They had been to holy city together after performing Eid Namaz on Sunday.

According to sources, the car overturned after hitting after hitting the divider on Taif-Riyadh road, when the driver lost control over the vehicle due to drowsiness.

Shareef died on the spot. Two of his co-passengers identified as Bashir and Abdul Rahman sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at a hospital.

Abdul Azeez, the uncle of the victim, who was driving the car was arrested by the police on the spot.

Shareef had gone to Saudi Arabia on an employment visa just six months ago and was working in a private company in Jubail.

The Janazah Namaz and burial will take place in Saudi Arabia, according to Shareef's family sources.

Ramanagara, Sep 19: A case of rape, sexual harassment and criminal intimidation has been registered against BJP MLA Munirathna and six others, police said on Thursday.

It was registered following the complaint of a 40-year-old woman who alleged that the incident took place at a private resort within the Kaggalipura police station’s jurisdiction.

“We received a complaint on Wednesday night and based on it, we have registered case against seven people, including the BJP MLA under various sections for rape by public servant, sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, voyeurism, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, Information Technology Act, and others,” a senior police officer said.

The matter is being investigated, he said.

The fresh FIR against the BJP MLA, also a former Minister, comes days after he was arrested by the Bengaluru Police in connection with the two cases filed against him for alleged harassment, threats and casteist abuse, police said.
