Mangalore, November 9: The Mangalore chapter of Youth against Corruption (YAC) in association with ABVP and Madhusudhan Kushe College on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner demanding the transparency in district administration, which according to them was full of corruption.
A number of students from various colleges of the city took part in the protest.
Addressing the protesters Deviprasad Shetty, convenor, YAC, DK district, accused the district administration of failing to check corruption within its headquarters.
He said even though there was a coupon system at Padasaale, affluent and influential people manage to get coupon earlier through a telephone call, while the poor people had to wait all day in the queue.
He urged the district administration to put an end to this irregularity at the RTC counter of Padasale. He also threated to unearth the corruption record of the district administration, if the same situation continued despite protest.
Condemning the ever rising reports of corrupt activities at the office of the sub registrar, he said that register applications usually cost Rs. 130 to Rs. 150, but people pay an extra amount to get it from the sub registrar's office. Besides, officials demand a bribe of Rs. 500 to register land worth Rs. 1 lakh, he added.
Ramesh, Organizing Secretary, ABVP, Mangalore, speaking on the occasion, complained that in the current situation in the district common people cannot get their work done unless they bribe concerned officials.
The protestors also demanded the Deputy Commissioner and State Government to take stringent action against corrupt officials.
