Mangalore, November 20: On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HIV) organised a one day district level Kabaddi tournament “Martyrs' Trophy” at Nehru Maidan in the city Sunday November 21.
According to the organizers the event was to commemorate the “sacrifice of Hindu martyrs of Dakshina Kannada district who lost their lives to anti-social elements”
Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Gurupura Vajradehi Mutt inaugurated the tournament. Speaking on the occasion Swamji said an organisation like HJV is necessary to protect the status of the Hindu religion and to spread the importance of the spirituality.
“HJV is neither to create problems in the society nor to confront the other religions”, he said.
He also said that the kabaddi tournament is a good opportunity for the rural area students to exhibit their talents and to win the trophy. This tournament can inspire the youth towards sports, he said.
B Amarnath Rai, President of Amateur Kabaddi Association, Dakshina Kannada district presided over the function.
Shambhu Sharma, Advocate, Ganapathi Bangera, Convener of HJV, and Vasudev Gowda were present as chief guests on the occasion.
The first prizes were Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 for men and women respectively.
B Purushotham Poojary, Secretary of DK District Amateur Kabaddi Association presided over the valedictory function.
