Mangalore, November 21: Al Wafa, a city based charitable trust will organise mass marriage ceremony for the benefit of girls belonging to economically poor family.
Announcing this at a press meet here on Monday, Muhammad Badruddin, Chairman of the Trust said that 16 poor couples would enter marital life on Wednesday, November 23, in a ceremony at Unity Hall near Thokkottu.
Aimed at addressing the issue of dowry, which is an impediment for many women from economically poor background to enter in to wedlock, the Trust has taken on itself to meet the complete marriage expenses of these 16 couples, he said.
Each couple would receive gold, clothes and gifts, he said.
Mangalore Qazi Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar will lead the Nikah ceremony. Udupi Qazi Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal will inaugurate the programme. Former Minister BA Moideen, MLA UT Khader, Mysore Divisional Commissioner A B Ibrahim will be the chief guests. Mr Badruddin himself will preside over.
A number of religious and social leaders will also take part in the event.
KM Shareef and Mohammed Haneef G, both vice-presidents of Al Wafa Trust, Umar UH, general secretary and BA Akbar Ali, treasurer were present at the press meet.
