Mangalore, November 22: The padayatra against the pending road work, by Congress party in the district entered second day on Tuesday.
After breakfast at Sullia, where the leaders of Dakshina Kannada Congress Committee stayed overnight, Bantwal MLA led the yatra towards Puttur.
The four-day 'padayatra' to exert pressure on the government to repair the unmotorable road between Sampaje and Mani, had been flagged off by freedom fighter Belliappa Gowda at Kallugundi on Monday.
Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress president Krishna Byre Gowda, speaking on the occasion said that a road that should have been repaired six years ago was still in poor condition. “Even though the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had been in power for three years, it had not repaired the road. Even before that for a year B.S. Yeddyurappa had been the Deputy Chief Minister in the BJP-JD(S) coalition”, he said.
The All India Congress Committee secretary, Vinay Kumar Sorake, alleged that the BJP had been dividing society on the lines of religion and caste.
The 80-kilo-metre padayatra is expected to culminate in Mani on November 24 after passing through Puttur and Vittla.
