Dharmasthala, November 25: Literature and religion shout motivate communal harmony and promote peace and orderliness in society, said Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof A N Prabhudev.
He was delivering the inaugural address at the 79th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana organised to mark the Lakshadeepotsava here on Thursday.
He said Kannada literature is ranked second in history and it belongs to the group of Dravidian languages.
He also said that the eight Jnanapith awards are evidences for the richness of the contemporary Kannada literature.
Presiding over the programme, well known critic Giraddi Govinaraja said that none should have inferiority feelings towards our language.
Indians have no sense of history and do not know how to keep records for posterity.
Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade said that in order to safeguard Yakshagana, a state level workshop, on different forms of Yakshagana is being planned in Dharmasthala.
