Mangalore, November 29: 'Sayonara', the valedictory for the final year MCA and M Sc (Software Technology) batches of AIMIT, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) was held on Monday, November 28.
The programme began at 1.30 pm honouring the students who were achievers in various inter collegiate fests and competitions held during academic year. By giving each one a rose, Prof Santhosh Rebello, the Dean of the IT section of AIMIT felicitated the winners.
The formal function was followed by the entertainment programme organised by the junior batches of students in honour of the outgoing students. The final year students also entertained the audience with songs, dances and skits.
The programme ended with a prayer service and message given by Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Director, AIMIT. He led the audience through an awareness exercise.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he said “You can achieve anything in life provided you have faith in God, faith in yourself and faith in others.”
He told the outgoing students that they were going to face a lot of challenges in life, but one has to be courageous and face all the hurdles in life to be successful.
Quoting Paulo Coelho he said, “One needs to have a lofty goal in life and then the whole world would conspire to help them achieve that goal”.
He reminded the outgoing students of the Jesuit principle: “MAGIS”, not to be satisfied with what one does but always try to improve, every day. Quoting words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount, he told that they are like “salt of the earth” and “Light of the world”.
He also called upon the students to be “men and women for others” and serve the nation and the world and make it a better place to live in.
While soft music was played, outgoing students came forward one by one, got the blessings from Fr Denzil and planted a lighted candle in a box while praying to God, seeking His blessings.
