Bangalore, December 3: Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda officially announced that Karnataka has prepared to host the 17th National Youth Festival in the new year.
The Youth Festival will be held in Mangalore from January 12 to January 16, he said.
The CM launched the emblem and a website created for the event at a function held in his home office "Krishna" in the presence of Union Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily.
He said about Rs 12 crore would be spent on the festival to be attended by 5,000 participants across the country.
The festival will witness a plethora of cultural events and competitive events depicting the culture and heritage of the nation.
Moily said the state would provide Rs 10 crore and the Centre Rs two crore for the mega event. Karnataka has requested President Pratibha Patil to declare open the festival and was awaiting confirmation, official sources said.
About National Youth Festival:
The First National Youth Festival was held at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) in 1995. The venues where these Festivals were subsequently held are Kolkata (West Bengal) in 1996, Ahmedabad(Gujrat) in 1997 ,Chennai(Tamil Nadu) in 1998, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) in 1999, Gandhinagar (Gujarat) in 2000, Hissar (Haryana) in 2002 ,Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) in 2003 ,Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) in 2004 ,Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) in 2005 ,Patna(Bihar) in 2006 , Pune (Maharashtra) in 2007 and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) in 2008, Bhubaneswar (Orissa) in 2009 and Udaipur (Rajasthan) in 2010.
