
Uppinangady, December 3: A two-day workshop of the coastal zone of the Humanitarian Relief Society (HRS) was held in Athur, near Uppinangady on November 26 and 27.
Explaining the aims and objectives of the organization, Abdul Gafoor, the Zonal Leader, Abdul Gafoor Kulai said that the HRS had been formed in order to provide relief to the people during natural calamities and emergencies, including accidents.
He said, the NGO has provided relief to the people during the Mangalore air crash and the flood havoc in the Uttara Kannada district.
The organization had also built houses for the flood-affected. It has also provided housing for 17 poverty-stricken people in Dakshina Kannada district, Mr. Gafoor said.
Ameer Kudroli, the convener, gave details about the workshop. Ameen Ahsan delivered a Qura'n class. Practical training and mock drill were conducted on reacting to the natural calamities and accidents. A quiz was conducted on how to administer first aid. A total of 60 youths had attended the two-day workshop.
