Mangalore, December 4: The fifth Rxlife Cycle Rally, an annual mass cycling event organised by a city based lifestyle modification and youth activity centre, Rx Life was flagged off by educationist Dr M Mohan Alva on Sunday, December 4 from 7.00 am at Lady Hill Circle.
The rally route covered a distance of 21 kms covering all sort of terrain concrete to mud.The rally route passes through Kottara, Kuloor, running parallel to Gurpur river on the new Kuloor-Jokatte road passing through Pejavar village and comes back on the same route through Kuloor Bridge concluding in Gandhi Nagar School.
A team of Doctors led by Dr. Sudhesh Rao of F.A.C.T gave practical demonstration on critical care and life saving skills.
Elaborate arrangements for water, lime juice and oranges distribution were made on the route. Ambulance and first aid support is provided by NITTE group through K.S. Hegde Medical Hospital. A cycle rescue vehicle is arranged to pick up cycle in case of break downs.
According to organisers, the event will be helpful in popularizing cycling as an expression of concern to conserve fuel and to develop traffic sense, riding habits and develop love for outdoor activities in young minds, the release said. Rally also aims to impress the district administration and city planners to safeguard cyclists' interests.
