Un-touchability still remained in the minds of the people'

Udupi, December 7: Udupi Zilla Panchayath President Katapady Shankar Poojary on Tuesday inaugurated the Ambedkar Parinirvana programme, organised jointly by District Administration, Zilla Panchayath, Department of Social Welfare, Department of Kannada and Social Welfare and district level Dalith organisations at Ambedkar Bhavan, Adi Udupi.

“By social justice Ambedakr meant a blend of independence, equality and brotherhood”, he said.

Several efforts in post-independence era could not eradicate untouchability completely. Un-touchability has still remained in the minds of the people, he opined.

Taluk Panchayath President Devdas Hebbar presided over the programme. ZP CEO Prabhakar Sharma, advcoate Manjunath Giliyaru, Social Welfare Officer L Shivalinge Gowda were present.

Assistant Director of Department of Kannada and Culture SH Shivarudrappa welcomed the gathering. N Ganesh Kumar Gangolli compered the programme.
