Mangalore, December 9: The Karnataka State government has appointed Umanath A Kotyan as the new president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy. He will succeed Paltady Ramakrishna Achar.
Basically a state artist, Umanath is an amateur actor, director and story writer and has dabbled in this field for the last two decades.
Currently, he is the vice-president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party.
Ten new members also have been appointed to the Academy. They are, Kadri Navneet Shetty Mangalore, B V Sooryanarayana Puttur, Ramesh Kalmadi Karkala, Yadava Karkera Padubidri, Manjula Shetty Mangalore, Jagannath Shetty Bala, Padmanabha S Bhat Yekkar, Prof Tukaram Poojary Bantwal, Prabhakar Shetty Bangalore, and Durgakumar Nairkere Sullia.
Three more members will be recommended by the current members.
