Mangalore, December 11: The 17th National Yuvajanothsava will be held in Mangalore from January 12 to 16. President of India Prathibha Patil will inaugurate the Yuvajanothsava at Mangala Stadium in Mangalore at 5 pm.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar said that around 6,000 youth will participate in the Yuvajanothsava.
The State government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for organising the Yuvajanothsava while the Centre has released Rs two crore for the purpose. The preparatory meeting has decided to deck all the government buildings, churches, mosques and temples in Mangalore, Moodbidri.
VIPs, officials and delegations from 28 states and Union Territories and five SAARC countries will take part in the Yuvajanothsava programme.
About 15 committees have been constituted to look into the arrangement of the Yuvajanothsava.
Youth from 28 states and seven Union territories will be presenting their art forms at the Yuvajanothsava.
18 events
Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda said that there will be 18 events which will be held in six halls.
If the number of participants for non competitive items like painting competition, sculpture, photography, food festival, yuva kriti, adventure activities are more, then it will be held at Puttur, Bantwal or Moodbidri.
The venue of the competitions are One act play—Town Hall, Mangalore; Folk song—Koragappa Kalyana Mantapa, Kudroli; Classical dance—Gokarnanatheshwara Kalyana Mantapa, Kudroli; Classical music—Devadiga Bhavana; Folk dance—TMA Pai international convention hall, Mangalore; Classical instruments—SDM Law College, Kodialbail and pick and speech—Scouts and Guides Bhavan, Mangalore.
The competitive events include classical dance—bharathnatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Manipuri and Kathak; classical instrument solo—mridangam, flute, veena, sitar, tabla, guitar and harmonium; classical music—Carnatic, Hindustani, folk dance, folk song, one act play and elocution.
The Deputy Commissioner said that valedictory of the programme will be attended by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Governor H Bharadwaj and Union Minister for Sports.
Five states have confirmed their participation so far. The tender has already been floated to prepare and provide food for the participants. The food will be supplied at T M A Pai convention hall which can accommodate 2,000 persons at a time.
Attractions
Boat house from Kerala will be brought to Mangalore and will be anchored at Nethravathi river. Other attractions will be boat race, beach volleyball and Kamabala at Pilikula on January 15.
There will be musical night by well-known artistes.
