Mangalore, December 12: Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of adiraja Sode Mutt was honoured with Tulabhara at the residence of Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, the founder of Kalkura Pratishthana on Monday.
The programme was preceded by the famous 'Talamaddale' which is traditional and unique to the district of Dakshina Kannada. The 'taalamaddale' presented was from one of the scenes of Mahabharatha. The performers of the evening were Padyana Ganapathi Bhat, Jayaram Bhat, Yelloor Ramachandra Bhat, Sundara Rao and Polali Nityananda Shastri.
Dharmadarshi Harikrishna Punaroor, B R Bhat, Corporation Bank Manager and Anil Bhat were present on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kalkura said, for Mangaloreans, Udupi paryaya is like own festival. It is Mangalore's custom to honour swamijis and the previous Paryaya swamiji was also present at my residence before the last paryaya festival, he said.
Vishwavallabha swamiji was then seated on one end of the giant balance and numerous coins were being filled at the other end of the balance. Many important personalities did the ritual of pouring in coins into the basket. The giant balance was well decorated with flowers.
Speaking briefly and blessing the gathered persons Swamiji said, “Only if we do our duties to God, will we seek his blessings. If you wish your hands to be divine then you must donate generously to the needy. Our elders have made the paryaya a blissful experience”.
The Udupi paryaya is a world famous event and everyone must be part of it, he said.
He also said that the teachings of Madhvacharya are meant to be followed even in this age.
The evening graced by several friends of Mr Kalkura and was brightened with song recitals and bhajans. A pooja was also performed by swamiji's team.
