Mangalore, December 21: The members of the Akhila Bharata Karmika Sangha on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the Office of Deputy Commissioner here demanding the reinstatement of two workers of an ice-making plant who were dismissed on grounds absenteeism.
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and the Labour Department, the sangha said that two workers Sharat and Yogish, who were working at an ice-plant run by the Yanthrika Meenugarara Prathamika Sahakari Sangha, were allegedly dismissed from work on the pretext of absence from work.
District General Secretary Raju Kulal said the workers must be reinstated and that working conditions be regulated under labour laws at the sahakari sangha, where 30 workers were employed. Of these, 14 were employed at the ice-plant run by the sahakari sangha.
