Mangalore, December 20: Dr G Shankar of G Shankar Family Trust, and renowned litterateur S L Bhyrappa are among the six persons chosen for the prestigious Nadoja honorary degree.
The award will be presented at the convocation of Kannada University, Hampi, on December 26.
Dr Shankar, who is well known for his social activities in Udupi, is also a recipient of doctorate from Mangalore University.
This is only the second time that a person from the undivided Dakshina Kannada district has been chosen for this degree after Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade.
The other personalities to be honoured are the former Chief Justice of the Karnataka and Kerala High Courts V S Malimath, yoga exponent B K S Iyengar, folk artiste from Bagalkot district Yellavva D Roddannavar, and writer K G Nagarajappa,
Vice-Chancellor of the university A. Murigeppa told presspersons in Bellary that the university had selected people from different walks of life for the honorary degree. Governor H.R. Bhardwaj would present them with an idol of the goddess Saraswathi, a citation and a shawl.
Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya will give away Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees.
The former Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Rama Jois will deliver the convocation address.
