Mangalore, December 23: Dakshina Kannada district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday celebrated victory of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda in Thursday's Legislative Council by-election as 'Vijayotsava'.
The jubilant party workers, who gathered outside the district BJP office in the city in the morning, raised slogans glorifying the second CM from coastal Karnataka, distributed sweets and burst crackers.
Speaking on the occasion, former district BJP president Monappa Bhandary said that the victory of BJP leader, who secured 123 votes out of 192 polled votes in straight contest, has proved that the 'divide and rule' policy of the Congress has not affected BJP. The election also proved the calculations and pre-assumptions of Siddaramaiah and G Parameshwar to be false, as their candidate Anand Gaddadevaramath could get only secure 69 votes, he said.
Zilla Panchayath President Shailaja Bhatt, BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary Sumana Sharan, and local BJP leaders Sathish Kumpala, Asha Jagadeesh, Suresh Kumar and Rajagopal Rai were present among others.
