Mangalore, December 24: The Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic sciences, Dharmanidhi Yoga Peetha, Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri and Yoga Practitioners Association have jointly organised a national seminar on Yoga Therapy on December 26.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor T C Shivashankar Murthy said, on the same occasion, Minister for Higher Education Dr V S Acharya will be inaugurating the departmental building and laboratory.
The building of the Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic Sciences had been built at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crore, while the university had built the laboratory for department at a cost of Rs. 50, he said.
Prof K Siddappa , former vice chancellor, Bangalore University will be the chief guest on the occasion.
Prof Murhty said it was only in 1998 that the full-fledged Post Graduate Department in Yoga was started at Mangalore University. In reorganization of the service rendered by the temples of Old Dakshina Kannada, development of Dharmanidhi Yoga Peetha and the department of Human consciousness, the Higher Education Minister will felicitate the donors of the temple trustees of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, he said.
He said, Yoga being the greatest contribution of India to mankind is known to cure many psychosomatic diseases. To impart knowledge about this science a one day national seminar is being organised and therapists from different parts of the country will deliver their seminars on treatment for various ailments like stress, backache, hypertension, diabetics, obesity, menstrual disorders and many more, he said adding that the registration fee is Rs 300.
