Mangalore, December 25: The ex-president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat K Santhosh Kumar Bhandary passed away following a massive cardiac arrest here on Saturday. He was 55.
Sources said that Bhandary suffered a heart attack while attending a post-Kambala meeting in Siddakatte on the outskirts of the city. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Mangalore. However, the end came at around 11:00 pm.
It is learnt that he had taken an appointment with a heart specialist in Mangalore for Monday December 26.
Bhandary, a Congress rebel was elected as the ZP president in August 2009, defeating Sundar Gowda Ichchila of the Congress by 19-15 margin, with the support of 15 BJP members. He was later expelled by the Congress party.
Bhandary was also an agriculturist by profession. After studying up to PUC he was engaged in agriculture.
Bhandary, thanking BJP leadership for his elevation, vowed to focus on improving health and education facilities as well as augmenting rural drinking water facilities. "I will pay due attention for implementation of central/state government sponsored programmes in the five taluks of the district," he said.
