Mangalore, December 29: The Cultural Association of St. Agnes College (Autonomous) will be organising a five day national level workshop on 'Folk Dances of Manipur' from January 12 to 16.
Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, Prof. Shubharekha, Staff Coordinator of the College, said, the workshop aimed to imbibe love and interest in Indian culture and folklore among the students from various colleges of our country.
About 100 delegates from various colleges of across India are expected to take part and benefit from the workshop. Internationally renowned artists Padmashree Dr. Darshana Jhavery and group from Mumbai and Gyaneshwari Devi from Manipur will expose the students to various forms of Manipuri folk and tribal dances, she said adding that 17 institutions have already registered and many more are expected for on-day registration.
Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda is expected to inaugurate the workshop at 2:30pm on January 12.
Kannada and Culture Minister Govinda Karajola, District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, Kuchipudi Exponent and Chairperson of Karnataka Sangeetha and Nrithya Kala Academy, Bangalore Vyjayanthhi Kashi will be guests of honour for the inaugural session.
Retired prof. of Hampi Kannada University Dr. AV Navuda will be the chief guest for the valedictory function scheduled to be held on January 16 at 3:30pm, se said.
Principal of St. Agnes College, Student Secretary Shashwathi Jain, Student representatives Shruthi and Chaithra were present in the press meet.
