Bangalore/Udupi, December 29: The Anti—Naxal Force has been entrusted the task of investigating the cause of death of a man, whose bullet ridden decomposed body was found near Hebri village, Karnataka Home Minister R Ashoka said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters in Bangalore, he said a preliminary enquiry had revealed that the 50-year-old Sadashiva Gowda, was shot dead.
The ANF investigation would have to ascertain whether Naxals killed him or it was the handiwork of some others, he said.
The minister said the man was not a police informer, as alleged by a Naxal group.
The man is suspected to have been abducted by a naxal group five days ago, following which ANF intensified combing operations in the forest area adjoining Hebri.
Post-mortem
Police sources from Udupi also confirmed that the post-mortem conducted on the dead body of Sadashiva Gowda, , has revealed that he was killed using shotgun.
Three injuries of a shotgun have been found on his body and as naxalites mainly use shotguns, it is a prima facie case of killing by naxalited, said Udupi SP Ravi Kumar.
Naxalites had killed Sadashiva Gowda for being a police informer, in the deep forests of Nadpalu last week and his dead body was found on Wednesday.
The SP also said that evidences of naxalites holding a camp in a nearby site were also found. According to him Sadashiva Gowda was not kidnapped, but was shot down when he was returning to his palce after collecting canes materials.
