Bangalore, January 1: Steering clear of giving a New Year's shocker to citizens, the State government shrewdly decided to stay mum on Karnataka Milk Federation's proposed hike in milk prices.
The KMF, which has been pressing for a hike of Rs five per litre, tried persuading Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Saturday, but to no avail. The matter has been deferred by a week.
KMF chief G Somashekara Reddy met Gowda, Co-operation Minister Lakshman Savadi and Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi and sought for the hike.
However, Gowda is said to have been in no mood to yield to the demand as it would be a 'bad New Year's gift' for the people of the State.
The government which might reverse its decision shortly, is agreeable to hike the price by about one or two rupees per litre.
