Mangalore, January 7: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Saturday conducted an interaction programme to bring together scholars, writers, academicians and registrars of the Academy, who ran the government's body during their term.
The programme was aimed at exchanging experiences about how the Academy worked during earlier times and the way it should work in the future. Since its inception 17 years ago the Academy has been promoting Tulu culture, literature, writings, books and programmes such that the language is made more familiar and powerful in the coastal region.
Umanath Kotian, President of the Academy said, “Many registrars have taken the reigns of this organization and they all had different plans and imaginations. But during their tenure as registrar not all of their plans are executed. Thus some plans remain and old members must give suggestions as to how the academy can become better.”
The 56th edition of 'Mudipu', the quarterly publication of the Academy was released on the occasion by Rathna Kumar M, former Editor of Navabharat Daliy, and Tulu Koota Publication.
Expressing his gratitude Rathna Kumar recalled that during his childhood days they were not allowed to speak Tulu that much as Kannada was given importance in public. However, now the situation has been changed, he said.
Tulunada Panchanga, a special calendar for the year 2012, was released on the occasion.
Ramachandra Achar, S H Shivarudrappa, Seetharam Kulal and Dr Vaman Nandavar were present among others.
