Localites go on adventure ahead of National Youth Fest

January 10, 2012

Mangalore, January 10: Even as the organisers are busy with last minute preparations for National Youth festival, the localites in Mangalore have seized the opportunity to taste the adventure sports.

Ahead of the commencement of the formal competitions, the organisers have kept the adventure activities open to the public in separate venues.

“It is a rare opportunity to the public to take part in adventurous activities. However, after January 12, these sports will be open only to participants of the youth festival”, said Jitendra Shetty, administrative officer of General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure. “A nominal fee will be charged from the public”, he said.

District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar on Monday inaugurated the land-based adventure sports such as rappelling, zorbing, tyrolean traverse on the premises of Town Hall and Nehru Maidan. Para-sailing is being held at Panambur beach. Paresh Karmakar, who holds a commercial pilot licence, is heading the six instructors for para-sailing.

Water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking and water banana ride were inaugurated at Netravati river at Jeppinamogaru last Sunday. The river was chosen because it is calm when compared to a beach.

Mr Shetty said that all the adventure sports are complete safe as they were being conducted under the guidance of experts.
