Puttur, January 12: The State Government will introduce the Bhagavad Gita in the school syllabus by hammering a consensus among the political parties, said Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, the Primary and Secondary Education Minister of Karnataka.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the Government had gone ahead with the programme of including Gita in the curriculum in response to the aspirations of the heads of the maths and the reaction of the general public.
Over the last four years Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan had been carried out across all the districts effectively. As desired by the religious heads and the general public the Government has decided to include the holy book in the curriculum. By opposing chief minister Sadananda Gowda's statement in this regard, the Opposition parties were unnecessarily creating a controversy, Mr. Kageri said.
To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda a series of programmes will be held across schools and colleges to create awareness about the great Indian saint, he said.
