Belthangady, January 13: M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs on Thursday visited the bereaved families whose children drowned in a rivulet at Sudemogaru on January 9.
Mr Moily met the parents and relatives of the school children and expressed grief over the tragedy.
He said that he would write letter to Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda asking to take appropriate steps to release compensation to the saddened families.
Abhaychandra Jain, Block congresses President Harish Kumar, Town Panchayath President Muguli Narayana Rao were present.
On January 9, four children Abubakkar Hafeez (11), son of Kabeer and Jamila, Javed Hassan (12), and Jamshed (7), children of Haroon Rashid and Rasheeda, and Sayyed Taseen's son Sayyed Nasir (12) had drowned in Nethravathi river. While Hafeez and Jamshed were students of St Mary's English Medium School at Laila, Javeed was student of St Theresa Kannada Medium School and Nasir, student of Government Model Higher Primary School.
